Selling is the art of matching a product or service with specific customer needs or desires. As an online business owner, your business is not a business until you start making money. To make money, will need to master the art of making the sale (or hire someone that has). To effectively sell your product or service online, you must clearly define what to sell, and who to sell it to.
The internet provides many benefits for the online business owner that entrepreneurs didn’t have years ago. With access to the world wide web, you have the power to come up with an idea, develop a plan, bring life to your vision, and advertise to clients and customers all while sitting at your laptop. When done correctly, selling online can help you to double and triple your business profits quickly and efficiently.
To effectively sell your product or service online, you must first determine whether your business will sell products or services (or both). A product is a tangible item that can be sold to a customer, such as a sweater or a digital download. A service is an intangible item that is provided to a client like graphic design or consulting services.
To make money online, you will need:
- something to sell
- someone to sell to
When determining whether to sell a product or a service, consider what your business is all about. What is the best way to express the vision of your brand and business? What will your readers, clients, or customers benefit from most? There are both advantages and disadvantages to selling a product or service, so be sure to do your research on what will work best for your business. Only you can decide what type of products or services you want to offer.
- How will my product or service solve a problem?
- What is the benefit of someone working with or purchasing from me?
- What is the result or solution people will receive after buying my product or services?
After you specify a product or service to sell, you have to choose who your business will sell to. These people are called your target audience. Your target audience is the demographic of people most likely to be interested in your product or service. This group of people will all have something in common, such as culture, age, gender, race, demographics, interests, attitudes, or needs.
Identifying your audience can help you to develop effective marketing strategies to bring in potential customers and clients. By knowing what the people want, you can sell your product or service online and see real results.
Here are a few examples of a target audience:
- adult children looking for help with elderly parents
- pregnant mothers wanting to learn about breastfeeding
- African-American women over the age of 40 wanting to further their careers
- female athletes in high school looking for college scholarship opportunities
When determining your target audience, consider your product or service. Who are you trying to reach? These people are your target audience.
Once you have determined who your target audience is, you will need to study that group of people. Ask yourself these 3 things:
- What websites and social media platforms do they use most? This is where you will need to build your social media presence.
- Where do they do must of their online shopping? You will need to advertise your product, service, or business ads here.
- What colors and fonts do they consider attractive? These are the colors and fonts you need to design your website, logos, and product packaging.
As a business owner, you have to ensure the products and services you sell are top quality and provide a solution for the problem your customer has.
To number one key to making online sales is to connect with people personally. Because you are selling online, you cannot connect with your customers face to face. If you want to make online sales, it is your job to develop an online presence that keeps the customer or client wanting more.
In the age of social media, people don’t want to see sales commercials and ads. What matters most to the customer is they feel they can know, like, and trust the companies and brands they purchase from. To connect and engage with potential clients and customers, use social media to grow your brand’s online presence.
Show your audience you genuinely want to get to know them and what they like so you can develop a product or service they actually want to buy.
I hope this helps!
